What it is
Diatomaceous earth is a soft, powdery rock made from the fossilised remains of diatoms — microscopic algae with silica shells. Ground fine, it has been used in pet care and around the home for generations.
Ours is food grade, the same grade we sell for human use. Do not substitute pool-grade diatomaceous earth, which is chemically treated and unsafe for animals.
How pet owners use it
- Dusted into the coat, worked in against the direction of the hair, avoiding the face.
- In bedding and around sleeping areas.
- Generous 350g tub — enough for repeat use on a large dog.
Applying it safely
It is a fine powder, so apply outdoors and avoid creating a cloud — neither you nor your pet should be breathing it in. Keep it out of eyes and nose. Let it settle before bringing your pet back inside.
When to see your vet
For persistent scratching, hair loss, skin sores, or an infestation that is not clearing, speak to your vet. Diatomaceous earth is a supplementary measure, not a substitute for veterinary parasite control.
