Ashwagandha is one of the most established herbs in Ayurvedic tradition, used in India for well over two thousand years. The name translates roughly as “smell of the horse”, a reference to the root’s distinctive scent.
It is classed as an adaptogen — a plant traditionally used to help the body cope with everyday stress. It is now among the most widely taken herbal supplements worldwide.
Root, not leaf
Worth checking when you buy ashwagandha anywhere: root extract has the long history of traditional use and the bulk of the research behind it. Leaf extract is cheaper to produce and turns up in budget products. Ours is root.
