What it is
Eucalyptus oil is steam-distilled from the leaves of the eucalyptus tree — a species that grows widely across South Africa. The scent is sharp, clean and camphorous, and it is one of the most recognisable oils in aromatherapy.
How people use it
- Steam inhalation. Two or three drops in a bowl of hot water, head under a towel.
- Diffuser. A few drops in water — good in a stuffy room.
- Massage blends. Diluted in a carrier oil such as our olive oil, typically 2–3 drops per 10ml.
- Bath or shower. A couple of drops on the shower floor, away from the direct stream.
- Laundry and cleaning. A few drops for the scent.
Safety
Always dilute before applying to skin — undiluted essential oils can irritate. Do not swallow. Keep away from eyes. Not suitable for young children or during pregnancy. Do a patch test before wider use.
