What moringa is
Moringa oleifera is a fast-growing tree whose leaves are dried and milled into a fine green powder. It has been used as a food and traditional remedy across Africa and South Asia for centuries, and is valued as a nutrient-dense leaf — a source of vitamins A, C and E, calcium, potassium, iron and plant protein.
It tastes green and slightly peppery, a bit like matcha crossed with rocket. Most people find a teaspoon in a fruit smoothie disappears completely.
How people use it
- In smoothies. A teaspoon with banana and mango covers the flavour well.
- As a tea. Half a teaspoon in hot (not boiling) water with lemon and honey.
- In cooking. Stirred into soups, stews or pap near the end of cooking.
- In capsules. If you would rather skip the taste entirely.
How much to take
Most people take one teaspoon (about 3g) daily. If you are new to it, start with half a teaspoon for the first week. Store the pack sealed, cool and out of direct sunlight.
